Founded as a Sole Proprietorship

Industriemontagen Berger was founded as a sole proprietorship by Ing. Gerhard Berger in 2001 after Austrian Energy & Environment (formerly Simmering-Graz-Pauker) filed for bankruptcy. 
With more than 22 years of experience in boiler construction and plant services, Ing. Gerhard Berger already had extensive technical expertise and a strong network within the industry from the very beginning. This made it possible to attract numerous highly qualified specialists and long-standing customers to the new company.

Establishment of the GmbH

IMB Industriemontagen Berger GmbH was founded under the management of Ing. Gerhard Berger, and the operating business was transferred into the GmbH. In the following years, the company successfully established itself in the fields of plant services, boiler construction and maintenance of industrial plants. IMB Berger developed into a sought-after specialist particularly in the maintenance and repair of waste incineration plants.

Expansion of Business Areas

The boiler, assembly and service activities were expanded to include metal construction and an independent trading division.

First Major Contract

IMB received its first major contract for the assembly of two waste heat boilers at the Simmering power plant for Wienstrom.

Major Contract in Bulgaria

The next major contract followed with pressure part assembly for an 890 t/h lignite boiler at the Maritza East 1 Power Station in Galabovo, Bulgaria.

International Structure

IMB Bulgaria EOOD and IMB Holding GmbH were founded, and IMB Industriemontagen Berger GmbH was incorporated into the holding structure.

Strengthening the Management Level

To meet the growing demands of large-scale plant engineering, the management team was expanded in January 2017 with the appointment of Andreas Belak as an authorized signatory and Deputy Managing Director. This set the course for stable and future-oriented leadership.

Expansion of the Digital Presence

From mid-2018 onwards, the company’s online presence was modernised and restructured to showcase its core expertise in power plant technology and welding technology more effectively.

Responsibility During the Crisis

During the global coronavirus pandemic in 2020, IMB sent a clear signal of appreciation for its employees, who secured the operation of critical infrastructure under difficult conditions. In January 2021, the company also demonstrated social responsibility through a large-scale donation campaign for earthquake victims in Croatia.

Expansion of the Management Team

With the appointment of Andreas Belak as Technical Managing Director and managing director under trade law, the management structure of IMB Industriemontagen Berger GmbH was further strengthened. With his many years of experience in power plant and industrial plant engineering, as well as his extensive technical expertise, he has since been responsible for the company’s technical management. He plays a key role in successfully delivering demanding projects and in IMB’s strategic development.

The New Site in Stetten

A key turning point in the company's history came in August 2024, when IMB relocated its operating site from Tresdorf to Stetten. A state-of-the-art company complex was created here, offering optimal conditions for logistics and administration with 290 m² of office space, a 1,000 m² warehouse and 930 m² of outdoor areas.

Leading Partner for Critical Infrastructure

Today, IMB has established itself as an indispensable partner for leading energy suppliers. Current major projects include complex revision and cladding work for EVN (MVA Dürnrohr) as well as extensive mechanical repairs and assembly work for Wien Energie at the Simmeringer Haide, Spittelau and Pfaffenau sites.
